NASA CoLab Island is a dedicated space in the online virtual world of Second Life. After downloading the Second Life application, you can enter Second Life and visit NASA CoLab Island any time, 24/7.

People or groups with ideas for building space-related 3D projects in Second Life can apply to host their project for free on NASA CoLab Island. Projects built on NASA CoLab Island in the past have ranged from a simulated Lunar lava tube habitat built by the Oregon L5 Society, to a 3D interactive information center built for NASA’s LCROSS mission.

NASA CoLab Island is also the gathering point for a vibrant online community of NASA and non-NASA space enthusiasts in Second Life. Community organizing meetings are held every Tuesday at 1pm Pacific Daylight Time.

It would be great if someone could build a virtual Mars Airplane modeled after NASA’s Mars Airplane design developed at Langley Research Center. It could fly a circuit around CoLab island or maybe even over a virtual Martian surface.

As to Mars airplanes over Mars, that is being done next door to CoLab, on JPL’s Explorer Island. IIRC, it flies over Martian Terrain to the South of JPL’s main building there. Last time I looked they also had the bouncing landers rolling down a slope there as well.
